Positive Holiday Kindness Traditions

“The holiday season is the perfect time to reflect on our blessings and seek out ways to make life better for those around us,” said Terri Marshall, American writer.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I think the holiday season is definitely the perfect time to spread as much joy and positivity as possible.

I, personally, like to do a food drive every Thanksgiving to help those in need. And for Christmas, I like to have my family give each other a compliment before opening each gift. I think both of these traditions in my family help us come closer together and share our warm holiday spirit to everyone we come across.

I found some positive holiday traditions from around the world that I thought I should share with y’all.

One tradition I found that I thought was really neat was one from Apple Montessori Schools, which can be found in several locations across the United States. In December, the schools associated with Apple Montessori create a “Calendar of Kindness” to get students in the holiday spirit throughout the whole month of December. Some ideas on the calendar are, “Write a happy note to a friend,” “Sing someone a holiday song,” and “Smile at everybody you see.”

Another positive holiday tradition I found that I really loved was one from Morgan Scott, the mastermind behind the Albuquerque moms blog. The Albuquerque mom thinks that one of the most fun things about being a mom around the holidays is being able to start family traditions of her own. Scott has successfully incorporated “Random Acts of Kindness Week” into her family’s holiday traditions over the past four years. Scott says that the Random Acts of Kindness Week, “is a fun way to get children, young and old, accustomed to giving and showing kindness to others.”

One last positive holiday tradition I came across from the Doing Good Together blog located in Minneapolis, MN was taking your child on a kindness date. These dates are a great opportunity to talk with your child about why you value kindness. They suggest you also do things such as buying flowers and holiday cards to deliver to children’s hospitals with your child, toy shopping for Toys for Tots and donating the unwrapped gifts at drop-off locations or baking cookies together and bringing them to neighbors.

These holiday traditions can have a positive effect on all parties.

Try adding one of these positive holiday traditions to your list or even making up one of your own!

It’s amazing how many people are willing to help others in need once one person steps up and gets something moving. I love doing my annual food drive because I know there are people out there with hearts of gold who are ready to help get others back on their feet.

Something as simple as a Christmas card can change sometimes entire day around. Spreading positivity during the holidays is much easier than we realize! Be kind and love always.

Hugs, Smiles :), and Positivity
