Food for Thought

No, literally. Some great foods that enhance your thoughts!

When you eat clean, healthy foods, you cleanse your body of toxins which often helps us think more clearly.

As many say, we are DEFINITELY what we eat. What you choose to put into your body, is what dictates what your body is going to give back to you.

So, here are some positive changes you can make to your diet to give you a more positive mind!

  • Swap your processed breakfast meal to a fruit or veggie smoothie
  • Eat an apple or a handful of nuts for a snack
  • Choose to drink water or green tea instead of sodas or sugary drinks
  • Eat foods high in antioxidants and foods high in Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Happy Little Thoughts

Here’s a list of 5 little thoughts to keep you moving forward!

1) Let it go!

Don’t ruin a good day by thinking about a bad moment.

2) Give it TIME.

Great things take great time.

3) Stop comparing yourself to others.

We are all special in our own ways.

4) Stay calm.

Take the time to just breathe. Give yourself a chance to step back and see the bigger picture.

5) Smile.

It’s the most wonderful super power we all have.

The Readers Guide to a Positive Mind

For this post I wanted to give y’all a few book recommendations, enjoy!

  1. The Power of Positive Thinking

As one of the most recognized positive thinking books in the world, I chose to make this the first book on my list. Throughout the book, Peale helps readers realize that their dreams lie within their ability to practice full faith every single day.

2) Think and Grow Rich

The second book on my list is Think and Grow Rich. Throughout this book Hill explains that riches begin with a state of mind. Hill tells readers that thoughts become things, so positive thoughts will lead to positive outcomes!

3) The Power of Now

The third book on my list is by Eckhart Tolle. In The Power of Now, Tolle brings deeper meaning into everyday experiences as well as the true importance the NOW contains.

4) As a Man Thinketh

The last book on my list for this post is As a Man Thinketh. James Allen writes about the power of thought and specifically focuses on the use and application of bringing thought to happy and beautiful issues.

You’re in Charge!

One of my favorite quotes is from Brandon Sykes. He said, “I am in charge of how I feel and today I am choosing happiness.”

So, one of my good friends was having a bad morning at school and messaged me saying, “today’s a bad day. I’ve already cried twice.” This was at around 8:30 in the morning.

I decided to reply back by telling her, “It’s not a bad day, just a bad morning. You get to decide how the rest of the day goes.”

I like to believe that we all have the power to dictate how our days are going to go. Don’t allow one bad incident to ruin the rest of your day!

Choose happiness, over and over, I ask you all to choose happiness.

Feed your body, feed your mind

Nicholls Baptist College Ministry

So, this post is going to be fairly personal y’all. This past week has been rough, like sandpaper to me. But the most common use for sandpaper is to smooth down a surface, which is how I choose to look at this past week.

As someone who’s struggling, we have to try our hardest to look beyond what is going on in that exact moment and try to see the possible ways the situation can shape us into better people.

I chose to go to the BCM for lunch because I knew they had free lunch on Wednesdays. The experience I had while there is unmatched. I felt so welcomed, which I really needed.

The BCM is the Baptist Church Ministry on campus and they always welcome all students. Every Wednesday they serve lunch to students, bless the food, and they usually have a guest speaker.

This specific Wednesday, they had a speaker who I felt was talking directly to me. As he was giving his talk he asked, “How do we make it through the day?” I sat back and thought about it for a moment. I realized that spreading positvity is really how I make it through the day.

I get such a genuine feeling of happiness when I’m able to make others happy. Being able to see how my happiness is created through making others happy made me even happier. I’m thankful I chose to go to the BCM on Wednesday because it made me realize being a positive person and being nice to others is truly what gets me through each day!

Free your mind and enjoy a word search puzzle!

We spend a large amount of time worrying about the troubles in our life. But how many people have realized that doing word searches can rack your brain and actually help you to deal with your troubles! Since doing word searches forces you to practice clear thinking, it can help you solve problems in your everyday life. Positivity starts with you

3 tips to having a more positive day!

Tip 1: Smile at yourself in the mirror first thing in the morning. A good way to get a positive start is to smile at yourself! Be happy with who you are and be proud of the way you carry yourself.

Tip 2: Drink a glass of water. Staying hydrated helps the heart more easily pump blood through the blood vessels to the muscles, which helps the muscles work efficiently. Which makes for an active person. We tend to be happier when we’re active, so staying hydrated can play a huge role in having a more positive day.

Tip 3: Dance your heart away before getting ready! Bust a few moves before you start your morning routine. It’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face and get you laughing. Dancing helps us release feel-good endorphins into our bloodstream and helps lower stress levels!

Kindness across campus

Colonel Acts of Kindness

For this post I wanted to talk about something that happened on my own campus.

Nicholls State University is a relatively small campus where almost everyone knows everyone else, making it easy for students to get in touch with each other. Which came in handy when sophomores Alayna Guillot and Heather Plaisance found a debit card on the ground while walking to the Chic-Fil-A on campus.

Alayna Guillot & Heather Plaisance

Heather and Alayna teamed up to e-mail the student who dropped her debit card so they could meet up to return it to her. The students successfully returned the card and went about their day.

It’s so simple to be kind to one another and help people when possible. Seeing things like Colonel Acts of Kindness can make other people’s days better! I’m proud that positivity and kindness are all over our campus!

Finding Positivity: College Edition

Me, Myself and I

Hello and welcome back ❤

This week my post is dedicated to my personal struggle with finding positivity as a college student. Being a student is stressful enough, but when you start adding on to that with things like organization involvement and jobs, life can get a little rough. So I wanted to talk to y’all about how I found positivity though the struggle and how it helped me bloom into who I am now.

As you may know from my welcome post, I have always had a pretty positive mindset. There were a few stages in my life where my positivity levels were not as high as they could have been, but those stages were all learning lessons and have all lead to tremendous blessings.

Within the months leading to my start at Nicholls, I struggled with finding happiness in anything at all. My great grandmother, who was also my best friend growing up, had passed at the beginning of 2017 (the year I began my college career). When I lost my great grandmother, I felt as if I lost a part of myself. She was someone I truly looked up to and having her taken from me truly broke my heart.

So, when I began at Nicholls in the fall of 2017, I planned on being a nursing major. I was not happy in my major and had so much trouble trying to find motivation. In the spring of 2018, I took MACO 101 and it changed my life! I realized that Mass Communications was the department that made me feel excited to do my work and gave me a reason to be in school. Dr. Linda Martin was the professor for the class that changed my college experience for the absolute best.

In that class I met the person who is now my best friend, I figured out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and I found happiness again. It was towards the end of that spring semester in 2018 that I went back to my old self and started being super positive again.

I joined plenty of organizations within my major and surrounded myself with super supportive people and I have really blossomed ever since.

I try to be as positive as I can. Even the smallest things can make a huge difference in someones life. I try to give out compliments as often as possible and do things that can help others!

Welcome

A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.

— zen shin

Hey everyone! Welcome to “Born to Bloom.” I am super excited to be blogging about spreading positivity to college students. It has always been a passion of mine to make people smile and share happy thoughts with them. I like to believe the mind is a garden, and what you choose to feed it with will then create either flowers or weeds. So let’s feed our minds with positive thoughts and let our lives blossom.
